What Does Your reflection tell you?

In The Name of Allah, The Most Exalted in Might, The Most Dependable.

All Glory belong to Allah, The One and Only, He Who has created man out of His infinite Mercy, and bestowed

upon him, a conscience, that he may be able to discern the goodness or otherwise of his actions.

Unfortunately, we live in a mirage of reality where we can neither see the truth about ourselves, nor can we handle a reminder of it as we abhor to acknowledge its existence. Yet as we struggle daily with life’s trials and we seek the aid of The Best of helpers, and no result is forth coming, we begin to doubt that what we seek will ever come. We even begin to doubt the virtues of The Most Gracious, forgetting that Allah says in Surah Ar-Rad, Verse 11;

…Allah does not change a people’s lot unless they change what is in their hearts…

We forget to ponder. We forget to look deep into our lives. We are negligent of our sources of income. We do not care about little sin. We do not offer simple help even though we expect the best from Allah. We withhold because of our inordinate love of wealth. We forget to be grateful when goodness comes to us. We do not seek forgiveness for little sins. We do not make tauba. We do not purify our intentions. We do not keep family ties. We do not struggle in the path of Allah. We do not try to acquire or increase our Islamic knowledge….

We are lost in the honeyed recesses of the ornaments in the dunya and we forget to work for that which is more lasting; the akhirah. Yet we wonder why we are miserable?

Didn’t Allah say in Surah Ash-Shura, Verse 30,

And whatever of misfortune befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned. And He pardons much.

It is high time we sought the truth about ourselves. We need to look into the mirror and point the fingers back at the one looking back at us. Ask yourself,

What does my reflection tell me?
